GMH uses a research-based proven program. We use a group approach where Black and Hispanic moms come together to meet, interact, and build a sisterhood with other moms like them. These group sessions are paired with one-on-one support that focuses on you. This includes life planning, goal setting, and referrals to services for you and your family. This powerful combination helps moms enhance their life skills, learn proven strategies to reduce stress, and build social support. This two-pronged approach of groups plus individual support impacts not only the moms who join us, but future generations of Black and Hispanic women, infants, and their families.
About Us
Systemic inequities and various life stressors significantly impact birth outcomes for Black and Hispanic mothers across all economic backgrounds. GMH creates culturally affirming spaces where every Black and Hispanic mothers and mothers-to-be—regardless of income level—can access the support needed for healthy pregnancies and thriving babies.
Our program brings together expectant and new mothers from diverse Black and Hispanic communities to form meaningful connections and mutual support networks. Through group gatherings that celebrate cultural strengths and shared experiences, participants develop lasting bonds while gaining practical knowledge. These community circles are enhanced by personalized support including life planning, goal achievement strategies, and connections to comprehensive family resources.
This holistic approach empowers mothers with stress-reduction techniques, builds robust support systems, and strengthens life skills that benefit entire families. By investing in the wellness of Black and Hispanic mothers from all walks of life, we’re nurturing healthier outcomes that ripple through communities for generations to come.

Dr. Beverly White-Macklin brings over two decades of dedicated service to maternal and infant health in the African American and Hispanic communities. With a PhD in Health Psychology from Northcentral University, an MPH in Community Health Program Planning and Evaluation from San Jose State University, and extensive leadership experience, Dr. White-Macklin is a recognized expert in culturally responsive health education and community wellness.
Rising to Senior Manager at the Santa Clara County Public Health Department in 2018, Dr. White-Macklin has spent more than 20 years (2000-present) transforming maternal health outcomes for communities of color. Her distinguished career includes:
